AI Standards and Standards Development Organization SME
Analytica is seeking an experienced AI Standards & SDO Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the implementation of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) and advancement of AI policy and standards across the Federal Government. This role focuses on enabling consistent and efficient adoption of trustworthy AI practices through standards analysis, cross-framework alignment, and technical synthesis.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in AI standards development, governance, and standards coordination (SDOs), with the ability to translate complex standards landscapes into actionable, reusable artifacts. This role emphasizes research, synthesis, and alignment activities across AI risk management, evaluation planning, and broader standards efforts while supporting Government-led decision-making.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
AI Policy & Standards Development
- Support development and advancement of AI policy and standards across the Federal Government
- Contribute to implementation of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) across its lifecycle
- Enable alignment between policy, standards, and operational AI risk management practices
Standards Analysis & Crosswalk Development
- Analyze the AI standards landscape, including domestic and international frameworks
- Develop crosswalks between:
- NIST AI RMF
- AI and non-AI standards frameworks
- Identify gaps, overlaps, and opportunities for alignment across standards
Standards Development & SDO Engagement Support
- Support standards development, coordination, and analysis activities
- Contribute to work involving Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) (e.g., ISO, IEEE, NIST-related efforts)
- Synthesize outputs from standards bodies to inform Government approaches
Research, Analysis & Synthesis
- Conduct research on AI governance, risk management, and standards landscapes
- Analyze and synthesize data into structured insights and recommendations
- Present information including:
- Impacts and tradeoffs
- Alternative approaches for Government consideration (without decision authority)
Documentation & Artifact Development
- Develop reusable deliverables, including:
- Alignment and crosswalk documents
- Standards analyses and gap assessments
- Policy and technical guidance materials
- Draft suggested language, redlines, and alternative options for Government review
Coordination & Integration
- Facilitate coordination across technical, policy, and standards efforts
- Promote reuse, traceability, and consistency across outputs
- Integrate Government-produced inputs into cohesive, high-quality deliverables
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s or PhD preferred in AI, Computer Science, Engineering, Public Policy, or related field)
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience, including:
- AI standards development, coordination, or analysis
- Standards landscape or gap analysis
- Development of alignment materials (e.g., crosswalks, mappings)
- Synthesis of standards impacts related to AI risk management or trustworthy AI
- Demonstrated experience engaging with standards organizations (SDOs) at a domestic or international level
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with:
- NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF)
- AI governance and assurance frameworks
- Experience working with:
- Federal Government clients (NIST preferred but not required)
- International standards bodies (e.g., ISO, IEEE)
- Strong ability to bridge technical, policy, and standards domains
